With the theme, Where common Law and Civil Law Converge: The Cross Roads of The Future, the conference engaged approximately 300 wealth structuring and trust and estate practitioners. As a silver sponsor of the event, BVI Finance secured an exhibition location for meetings and networking sessions with STEP practitioners from across Latin America and the Caribbean. The BVI was represented by practitioners from Intertrust BVI, O’Neal Webster, JTC Group Sao Paulo, Litwak and Partners Uruguay, Harneys, Amicorp and TEAM BVI LatAm members.
The BVI Hosted event provided an interesting discussion on how Investment Fund innovation is revolutionizing the market. The panelist included Silvania Tognetti of Vierano Advogados, Marcos Abe of Guimaraes & Rocha Neto Advogados, Horacio Woycik of Harneys and moderated by Martin Litwak of Litwak & Partners International. The discussion evolved from topics on BVI companies as the main vehicle used through Brasil into the new funds launched recently followed by efficient use of BVI structures in wealth management in Brasil. Marcos, labeled BVI new funds as the safe platform while Silvania demonstrated its ease of implementation into structures that require an international vehicle for investment. The event also included a pinning ceremony of TEAM BVI LatAM’s members. With over 60 participants attending the event, BVI Finance recognised and officially launched its TEAM BVI Latam members.
TEAM BVI LatAm comprises of private sector professionals representing every aspect of the industry. Members include; Luciana Fernández of JTC Group, Brasil, Alvaro Becerra of Amicorp, Chile, Victor Hugo Rodriguez of LatAm Alternatives, Miami, USA, Javier Canosa of Canosa Abogados, Argentina, Jerry Feldman of Sobek Global Finance Fund Ltd./Aten Management Ltd., Perú, Alvaro Tringolo and Jacqueline Schwartz, both based in Uruguay, and Rubens Boicenco, an independent industry consultant. TEAM BVI LatAm will be headed by Martin Litwak, Founder and Managing Partner of Litwak & Partners, a niche law firm specialising in investment funds, corporate finance and private client work.
Speaking on the selection of Litwak to lead TEAM BVI LatAm, BVI Finance’s Marketing Manager, Alicia Green expressed confidence in Litwak’s knowledge of and experience in the jurisdiction. “We found Martin to be the perfect fit as prior to founding Litwak & Partners earlier in 2011, he spent more than 12 years working for some of the most prestigious law firms in Latin America and in the British Virgin Islands, and he has always been an advocate for BVI business.”
The team’s purpose and objectives include identifying barriers and opportunities to entry in select target countries, making suggestions to enhance or changes to products and services, representing the BVI in speaking engagements in the Latin American region, writing articles, and suggesting ideas and marketing programmes for the Latin American market. The team will serve as BVI Finance’s point contact for high level involvement of business generation and as the territory’s resident experts for engaging with Latin America.
TEAM BVI is a voluntary initiative, however, members are urged to offer their services for a minimum of 12 months. Members are required to attend quarterly reviews and planning sessions or adhoc meetings as necessary. Membership carries many benefits which included recognition and branding of representative firms and experts in the industry.
