BVI Finance Elects George Weston as Chair of the Board of Directors

BVI Finance is pleased to announce that George Weston has been elected by the BVI Finance Board of Directors as its chairman. George is a partner and the head of the BVI transactional team at Harney Westwood & Riegels (BVI) LP.
 
His practice focuses on corporate and commercial law, including mergers and acquisitions, takeovers, downstream private equity investments, joint ventures, public and private share offerings, capital raisings, and corporate reorganisations, and has worked on some of the jurisdiction’s most notable deals. George has been an industry elected director of BVI Finance since 2021. 

George said, “I am very honoured that the board of directors has elected me to be the next Chair of BVI Finance, an organisation that continues to do incredibly important work in promoting and protecting the financial services industry in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). The next few months are likely to be especially significant ones for the jurisdiction, and I am looking forward to working with the BVI Finance team, my fellow directors, the BVI Government and the wider industry. I am confident that together we have the expertise to navigate the road ahead. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the outgoing Chair, Sabinah Clement of Vistra, for her leadership and hard work over her term. "

George will now chair a distinguished group of professionals on the BVI Finance Board of Directors. The current board includes Jonathan Bailey of Rawlinson & Hunter, Sabinah Clement of Vistra, Fanny Evans of MMG Trust, Kayla Laidlaw of Deloitte, Chris Newton of Maples, Christopher Simpson of O’Neal Webster, Deon Vanterpool of Bank of Asia, and Iona Wright of Walkers. The board also includes government-appointed representatives, Jeremiah Frett, Financial Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, and Ayana Glasgow, Director of Financial Services at the Ministry of Financial Services, Economic Development, and Digital Transformation.

BVI Finance comprises 91 member firms that represent a broad spectrum of the financial services industry. Each year, members elect new directors, who in turn select the chair.

BVI Finance thanks outgoing chair, Sabinah Clement, for her stellar contribution and looks forward to the leadership and vision that George Weston will bring to the organization and the broader financial services industry in the British Virgin Islands.
