BVI Finance Champions Innovation and Global Collaboration at TOKEN2049 Singapore

10/10/2025

The British Virgin Islands took centre stage at TOKEN2049 Singapore from October 1st – 2nd, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world’s most influential voices in fintech and digital assets.

BVI Finance proudly represented the jurisdiction at Asia’s premier Web3 and blockchain event, reinforcing the BVI’s reputation as a trusted, agile, and forward-looking hub for digital innovation, regulation, and global financial services. With dynamic discussions, networking, and knowledge sharing, the BVI delegation highlighted the jurisdiction’s growing role in powering the future of digital finance.

The BVI experts engaged with fintech professionals, including founders, institutional investors, token issuers, DAOs, and payment innovators. These conversations underscored the BVI’s unique value proposition—its balance of robust regulation, business-friendly environment, and deep expertise in cross-border structuring and digital asset solutions.

“TOKEN2049 has been an invaluable opportunity to engage directly with the global fintech community,” said Trevaughn Smith, Fintech Lead at BVI Finance. “These discussions reaffirm the BVI’s position as a trusted jurisdiction that understands the evolving needs of digital asset businesses — providing the regulatory clarity, stability, and international reach they need to scale responsibly.”
These discussions echoed the findings of BVI Finance’s recent global study, Destination Digital, which revealed that 94% of fintech leaders view cross-border expansion as critical to success, with most looking to International Financial Centres (IFCs) like the BVI for their ability to balance innovation with regulatory clarity. The report highlights that fintech firms increasingly favour jurisdictions that provide access to capital, credible legal frameworks, and flexible regulation that supports digital transformation.

“The BVI continues to stand out as a jurisdiction that delivers certainty,” added Smith. “As Destination Digital showed, fintechs want to innovate responsibly — and the BVI’s frameworks, like the Virtual Assets Service Providers Act, provide exactly that: clarity, trust, and a strong foundation for sustainable growth.”

The BVI delegation at TOKEN2049 Singapore included:
•    Trevaughn Smith, Fintech Lead, BVI Finance
•    Shane Baptiste, CAMLFC, Director, BVI Financial Services Commission (Hong Kong)
•    Ayana Hull, Head of Private Wealth and Regulatory, Harneys

•    Ronan Kuczaj, Managing Director & Founder, DLT Solutions
•    Peter Vas, Partner, Spencer West
•    Siobhan Flax, Deputy Director, BVI Hong Kong Office

BVI Finance’s participation underscored the jurisdiction’s leadership in digital transformation, its commitment to maintaining world-class regulatory standards, and its strategic approach to future-proofing international finance.
During the event, Ayana Hull, Head of Private Wealth and Regulatory at Harneys, also participated in an interview with TheStreet.com, where she highlighted the BVI’s vital role in shaping the digital economy — emphasizing the jurisdiction’s pragmatic regulation, legal sophistication, and forward-thinking approach to fintech innovation.

“Global events like TOKEN2049 affirm the BVI’s integral role in the digital economy. Trevaughn and the BVI team gave exceptional representation,” says Elise Donovan, CEO of BVI Finance. She added, “As Destination Digital confirmed, fintech businesses are looking for stable, forward-thinking jurisdictions that understand their needs — and the BVI remains exactly that. Our message is clear: the BVI is open for business and ready to help shape the future of fintech and blockchain innovation.”
