In honour of International Women’s Day and the broader celebration of Women's History Month, BVI Finance partnered with the Women's Offshore Network (WON) and Walkers to host a special event recognizing women’s leadership and the vital work of women-led organizations in the British Virgin Islands (BVI).
Held on Friday, March 6, the intimate yet impactful gathering brought together members of the financial services community, nonprofit leaders, and supporters to highlight several women-led nonprofit organizations making a difference across the BVI. Featured organizations included the British Virgin Islands Red Cross, represented by its Director, Stacy Lloyd; Creative Waves, represented by its Founder, Sophie Stanton; Green VI, represented by its Executive Director, Charlotte McDevitt; SC Global Inc., represented by its Founder, Sheila George; and Unite BVI, represented by its Managing Director, Kim Takeuchi.
The event was hosted at Taste the BVI, a locally owned, woman-led restaurant, providing a fitting setting for a morning dedicated to celebrating the achievements and contributions of women. Attendees reflected on this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain,” which emphasizes the power of collective support, generosity, and community engagement.
Representatives from each featured nonprofit shared insights into their organizations’ missions, the meaningful work they are carrying out across the BVI, and the ways in which the financial services industry and the wider public can support their initiatives. The presentations highlighted a wide range of community-focused efforts, from environmental sustainability and creative empowerment to humanitarian support and personal development.
As part of its participation, BVI Finance sponsored SC Global Inc., founded and led by Sheila George, a respected figure within the financial services industry. Established in 2017, SC Global Inc. is a collective dedicated to encouraging, mentoring, and supporting women as they move through healing, transformation, and into the fullness of their purpose. Through their work, SC Global Inc supports women not only in the Caribbean but also across East Africa, helping them discover clarity, restoration, and strength for the journeys they are called to walk.
BVI Finance expresses its appreciation to WON and Walkers (BVI) for their partnership in bringing the event to life, as well as to the WON team for their work in planning and executing the gathering.
As an organization that represents one of the BVI’s most important sectors, BVI Finance recognizes the critical role women play both within the financial services sector and throughout the wider community. Events such as this provide an opportunity to highlight and support organizations that are making a meaningful impact in people’s lives.
BVI Finance hopes that the organizations featured during the event will continue to grow and expand their reach, touching even more lives across the BVI and beyond.
