Following board elections and the most recent meeting of the Board of Directors, Kayla Laidlaw and George Weston have been selected as Co-Chairs of the BVI Finance Board of Directors.
The appointments follow George Weston’s tenure as Chair in 2025 and reflect continued leadership from two long-serving board members. George has served on the BVI Finance Board since 2021, and Kayla since 2023 – most recently serving as chair of the Finance Sub-Committee. Together, they bring significant experience across tax, regulatory reporting, corporate law, international finance, and cross-border transactions.
Kayla Laidlaw is a Tax Director with Deloitte BVI, where she assists clients across the Caribbean region with global tax transparency and information reporting obligations. She has been with Deloitte for more than 12 years and leads the delivery of Deloitte’s FATCA, Common Reporting Standard (CRS), Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS), and Economic Substance (ES) service offerings in the BVI, the Cayman Islands, and Bermuda. Kayla has also supported the implementation of regulatory reporting portals and related administration and oversight processes for tax authorities across the region.
George Weston is a Partner, Global Head of Harneys’ Corporate Practice Group, and leads the firm’s British Virgin Islands Transactional team. He advises on all aspects of corporate and commercial law, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, joint ventures, public and private share offerings, capital raisings, corporate reorganisations, and offshore SPAC transactions. George regularly advises leading law firms and private equity investors on cross-border acquisitions and joint ventures, particularly those involving technology, real estate, hotels, and hospitality. He also consults with the BVI Government and regulators on the development of corporate law in the Territory.
Commenting on the appointments, Elise Donovan, CEO of BVI Finance, said:
“Kayla and George have both made meaningful contributions to the BVI Finance Board over the past five years, and their appointment as Co-Chairs brings together two highly respected leaders with deep technical knowledge and strong commitment to the industry. Their experience across tax, regulation, corporate law, and international business will be invaluable as BVI Finance continues to represent its members, support the development of the financial services sector, and promote the BVI’s value proposition globally.”
The BVI Finance Board of Directors also includes Amy Roost, Managing Director of Client Services at Harneys Fiduciary; Thami Majozi, Operations Manager at Exness BVI; Chris Newton, Managing Partner at Maples Group BVI; Christopher Simpson, Partner at O’Neal Webster; Iona Wright, Partner at Walkers BVI; Sabinah Clement, Head of International Finance Centres, Global Incorporation at VISTRA; and Fanny Evans, Partner at Morgan & Morgan.
