BVI ACO Announces Chosen Charity for 2018 and Scholarship Recipient

Donation to the Family Support Network
In spite of the devastation and aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria the British Virgin Islands Association of Compliance Officers (ACO) is pleased that it continued providing support, guidance and training to Compliance Officers, Money Laundering Reporting Officers and other professionals in the Territory.
During its first meeting of 2018, members of the ACO had a chance to meet and greet fellow members, share Irma stories, discuss the resilience of the financial services sector, and how quickly compliance professionals were back at their desks promoting a culture of compliance within the jurisdiction. Despite their personal challenges resulting from two category 5 hurricanes, members of the ACO remained resolute in their duty to contribute to the reputation of the BVI as a highly attractive and well-regulated international financial centre where all clients are identified and verified.
Members unanimously agreed that the ACO should help with community regrowth, and more specifically persons in the community that were significantly impacted by the hurricanes. To that end the ACO is pleased to announce that the chosen charity for 2018 is the Family Support Network (FSN). The ACO was pleased to make a monetary donation to the FSN to aid their efforts to assist the community. Additionally, individual members of the ACO and a number of companies contributed money, food and other supplies to the ACO for onward donation to the FSN. The donation was made to Mrs. Judith Charles, President of the FSN, at a small ceremony held at Ogier’s conference room. The ACO would like to thank its members and companies, including Ogier, Coverdale and Sterling Group for contributing to this worthy cause.
Compliance Conference and Scholarship
On 25th April 2018, the ACO hosted its annual compliance conference under the theme: Compliance Officer – A Company’s Regulatory Intelligence. Now in its third consecutive year, this highly attended conference featured local and international subject matter experts speaking on various topics such as cryptocurrencies, sanctions and compliance audits.
During the conference the ACO was pleased to announce the creation of The Harriet Skelton Compliance Scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide funding to eligible candidates to pursue a Diploma with the International Compliance Association at the Financial Services Institute, HLSCC. The ACO was pleased to present the Scholarship to its first recipient Mr. Nigel Williams.
