Hundreds Expected to Attend FinTech Immersion Conference

13/07/2018

The Government of the Virgin Islands is set to host a two day conference on FinTech Immersion at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) on 23 and 24 July.

This public private partnership, billed as a ‘FinTech immersion initiative’ follows the 2018 BVI Asia Trade Mission led by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE, when he visited several Fintech officials and entities, including the Monetary Authority of Singapore, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Crimson Logic, which runs more than one Caribbean FinTech programme.

In this era, it is imperative that all businesses, including government, become knowledgeable about how FinTech improves our daily activities, to stay ahead of the curve and remain competitive. Persons from the community, including private/public sectors and students, are encouraged to attend the conference which will focus on how innovation driven technology can transform the BVI’s economy. Participants will learn more about blockchain technology, monetising data and developing unique funding streams, cryptocurrencies, how to use actionable intelligence and data to drive effective decision making, and more.

This intensive conference will be facilitated by Professor Keith Carter from the National University of Singapore (Computing) and will be held under the theme “Think Differently – The Great Digital Disruption and the New Internet Economy.”

Premier Smith is encouraging everyone to think about business and finance opportunities in FinTech and to participate in the event as there continues to be a significant increase in the demand to conduct business on the go, and at a faster pace, including from one’s mobile phone.

Sponsorship partners of the event include the Financial Services Commission, BVI Tourist Board, BVI Finance, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College and the Bank of Asia,

Persons interested in partnering in this venture as a sponsor can contact BVI Finance at info@bvifinance.vg or +1(284) 542-9725.
