18 PROFESSIONALS BREAK GROUND BY COMPLETING THE 2023 FINTECH PROGRAMME

The HLSCC Robert Mathavious Institute for Financial Services, in partnership with BVI Finance, proudly announced the graduation of the second cohort of professionals from their esteemed Fintech Programme. Eighteen trailblazers have completed their journey, demonstrating excellence and commitment to innovation in the financial technology realm.

The graduation was moderated by the Director of the HLSCC Robert Mathavious Institute for Financial Services, Ms. Chidi Liburd, and the Fintech Programme coordinator Singapore-based Professor Keith Carter of KBC Global Partners.  Professor Carter in administering the course was joined by an esteemed team of FinTech lecturers from Asia and North America.

The four capstone groups were as follows: a Remittance App, a Generative AI App, a PowerBI Strategic Tracking App sponsored by HLSCC and a Website Robotic Process Automation & Digital Payments app sponsored jointly by BVI Finance, The Ministry of Health and Inland Revenue in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The graduates were greeted with congratulations from the Premier and Minister of Finance  Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley, and the Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Labour and Trade, Hon. Lorna Smith, OBE, who herself is an alumni and fervent supporter of the programme.

Distinguished attendees included Mr. Derek Dunlop and Ms. Lynette Harrigan from the HLSCC board, Mr. Theodore Burke, Chairman of BVI Airport Authority, and Ms. Elise Donovan, CEO of BVI Finance.

The graduates were given in-depth exposure to the vast realms of blockchain, digital assets, robotic process automation, and other cutting-edge areas of fintech.

Director Chidi Liburd, in her opening remarks, celebrated the transformative journey of the students and said, “Their passion, resilience, and creativity have not only empowered them but have elevated our expectations for the future of this industry."

Premier Dr. the Hon. Natalio Wheatley praised the course and acknowledged the Deputy Premier's contributions, saying, “I'm extremely pleased to see this course taking hold. I'm proud to be associated with it and happy to support its continuation."

The Deputy Premier Hon. Lorna Smith, OBE, highlighted the significance of the training received by the graduates. “You have been taught by some of the best in the world in terms of FinTech,” she said, urging the graduates to drive innovation in the financial sectors in the BVI and throughout the region.

The HLSCC President endorsed the skills taught in the program, stating, “The skills learned are beyond just financial services application." He also expressed gratitude to Director Liburd, Elise Donovan, Trevaughn Smith, and the BVI finance team for their support.

Trevaughn Smith, wrapping up the ceremony, spoke of the broader goals of fintech. “Your journey in fintech is about creating a financial ecosystem that leaves no one behind,” he declared.
