On Tuesday, November 21st ,BVI Finance hosted the 2023 Great Debate which saw the HLSCC Debate team and industry experts return for the highly anticipated debate competition. Arguing the moot “AI’s Impact on the BVI’s Financial Services Industry will lead to Retirement (re-invention)”, both teams carefully outlined their points to the judges panel comprising of leading industry professionals.
In the end, Jhadazia Lennard, Aiesha Daniel, and Tanesha Warner of the HLSCC Debate Team emerged victorious in what can only be described as an intense debate competition.
The HLSCC Debate Team managed to pull ahead and win by a marginal ONE POINT, outlining the quality of both teams.
The Industry Team was comprised of James Kitching and Rhonda Brown from Harneys, and Juan Carlos Quezada from Conyers. BVI Finance commends the Industry Team for their stellar performance.

During the debate’s intermission, Christopher Simpson, partner at O’Neal Webster was interviewed on the broader impacts of AI and answered a hard-hitting question by host, Michelle Hibbert who also played a vital role in the planning and execution of the debate.
The audience used this time to interact with the guest speaker and weigh-in on the topic of AI.
The debate was moderated by Dr. Richard Georges, President of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College. Liz Barahona, Simone Martin, and Jennifer Potter made up the judges panel while Akiea Nicholas was the timekeeper and tabulator.
