Local lawyer, Vanessa King of O’Neal Webster, has been awarded the ninth STEP Founder’s Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Last week, the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Professionals (INSOL), hosted its Fourth Caribbean Offshore Seminar in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) to explore the many different aspects of the offshore region that make it an integral part of the cross-border insolvency and restructuring landscape.

The Government of the British Virgin Islands has today announced that its independent regulator, the Financial Services Commission (FSC), has issued an enforcement action against Mossack Fonseca & Co (B.V.I) Ltd. that sees the firm fined $440,000 for its contravention of numerous sections of the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Code of Practice and BVI Regulatory Code.

The BVI International Arbitration Centre, (BVI IAC) will host a soft launch on 16 November 2016. The centre, which is located at Ritter House on Wickhams Cay II, will host its soft launch on Wednesday, 16 November and open the premises to the public for the first time with the intention of showcasing what the facility has to offer.

In collaboration with the Caribbean Examinations Council, the British Virgin Islands launched the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) Financial Services Syllabus at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium on 3 November.

The Virgin Islands Shipping Registry (VISR) has won Quality Shipping in the 21st Century (Qualship 21) programme recognition for the year 2017. The department received a Certificate of Achievement confirming that the United States Coast Guard (USCG) officially recognised the VISR for having qualified for inclusion in the USCG Qualship 21 programme.
