The 5-kilometre race has a tradition of many years and brings together BVIslanders and people from all over the world. Runners often participate in clusters of families, friends, and corporate teams, but also as individuals, with the aim to encourage sports through the practice of street running. There is also a walking category. Despite the rainy weather that week, this year’s race had 41 participants who fell into 8 age groups ranging from 11 to 79, compared to 44 participants in 2023. This would indicate growing support for the event.

The race began and ended at H. Lavity Stoutt Community college, with runners and walkers tackling some steep climbs on a challenging race route that included Agricultural Road and the Marine College Campus.

The Women’s winner was Vicki Francis, and the Men’s was Jermaine ‘JJ’ Rickets. The oldest participant was Jim Cullimore at the age group 70-79, and the youngest was an 11-year-old girl named Leela Mellor. The winner in the walker’s category was Sophie Bennet.

Enthusiasts are looking forward to 1st June 2024, when the final race of the Trident 5K Series will take place, with a different route this time Dual Carriageway Dash and BVI National 5k Road Championship, AO Shirley Grounds.
Spot prizes are presented for each race, and series awards are made to all participants completing a series of 3. The National Champion Awards will be presented after the final race.

For those seeking even more of a challenge, Trident Trust invites the public to participate in the Trident 10K Series which will be held later in the year.
